Inexpensive Thanksgiving Table Decor

If you’re anything like me, your thanksgiving went from hosting a group of 12 to your house hold of 4. Now I’m stuck with a 16lb turkey and 5 lbs of potatoes.

With this crazy year, I’m not even surprised that this happened. If it’s taught my anything, you’ve got to be ready for the unexpected and to make the best of what you have. So, my boyfriend and I decided instead of not celebrating at all that we would make the best of what we had.

How do we do that? Well, while I’m devastated not to be celebrating with all of my family and friends, I still wanted our thanksgiving to be festive. I decided the best way to make it still feel like thanksgiving, other than the food of course, was to make the table festive like any ordinary thanksgiving.

I had already placed an order for cloth napkins and plastic utensils for 12 but my garland would no longer work for my 4 person table. I made a quick trip to Walmart and Target to pick up a few festive pieces. I found some real pumpkins, pumpkin & berry prick, and candles.

Since I had entirely changed my tables color scheme, the greenery I had no longer worked for the plates decor. So, I went outside to my tree and grabbed 4 fall leaves for each plate. They were wet and covered with snow, so I used paper towels to dry them off and placed a candle dish on top of each leaf to flatten them out. While waiting for the leaves to set, I started placing the garlands?, then the candles and then the pumpkins. I would adjust the pieces as I added each decorative element. Once I was done, I placed the leaves on the plates and called it a day.

While it wasn’t everything I had imagined, it gave me the feeling and excitement for thanksgiving. It was a simple and inexpensive way to embrace the fall season.
